Leaders are like writers. We are writing a story in which our teams are the characters. It can sometimes be tempting to make ourselves the main character with our team as supporting roles.
However, if you want to simultaneously grow your team members and create a culture of risk taking and problem solving you must create a story for your team members that allows them to accomplish deeds of renown.
Create opportunities for your followers to shine and to be themselves looked up to by their peers and most importantly themselves.
What I am describing is different than "not stealing the limelight", that concept has more to do with showing off or taking undue credit opportunistically. What I am encouraging you to do is to create opportunities for others to be in the limelight.
