In-laws

Just those words make some people cringe.

Here's the thing. Stop it. Don't make that face. Do you want your marriage to blossom and grow? Then I challenge you to only say positive things about your in-laws no matter how different they are from you and your own family. No matter what they have done in the past, it's not your role to judge.

Refrain from saying anything negative. Even if your partner is engaging in negative talk about their own family. Even if it's justified. Don't agree, don't disagree, just listen. Certainly don't chime in.

Worst case you never say anything negative about your partner's family. Best case you only speak positive things about them. You would be surprised how damaging speaking ill of your partner's family can be to your relationship.

I have to give props to Dr. Larry Lucas who taught me this in 2004.

So if you want an easy way to improve your relationship, take this tip to heart.
