Leaders should not exert power over people but should empower people. The reason this is a good idea is because empowered people are like leverage.

Do not fall prey to hubris. You and your team cannot do all that, in that amount of time, within budget, at the level of excellence your stakeholders deserve.

If the people you lead cannot answer these questions than it is highly unlikely your team or organization is working as a true team.

As a leader think of every day, week, or month as New Year's day.

There is a right way and a wrong way to correct your people as a leader. Its a powerful tool that can grow your team when done well or destroy value if done improperly. 

This is a common one that I am also guilty of. You just finished pontificating on a new strategy or tactic. You finish up by asking, "does anyone have any comments, concerns, questions?" If you have positional power asking that question is bogus.

There is overwhelming evidence that meetings are usually wasted time and money, yet many people spend almost all day in meetings. I for one do not.

If you had to choose between someone remembering your name or someone really listening to you which would you choose?

Let's define sunk costs as time or money spent that cannot be recouped. Using this definition, that time and money is gone like summer in Minnesota. Despite knowing this, I listen to many people that live their lives and practice leadership based on desperately trying to regain sunk costs. And they don't even recognize it.
