I Love Meetings...

... that get canceled.  Cancel two meetings this week. Do you have the guts to do it?

"Meetings are by definition a concession to a deficient organization. For one either meets or one works. One cannot do both at the same time." - Peter Drucker

For those of you out there that differentiate between management and leadership I will concede that this is a management topic.

It becomes a leadership topic because as leaders we lead by example and shape our teams and organizations. We must ruthlessly fight against the debilitating dark forces of meetings. As leaders you should empower your people to cancel meetings. You should encourage them to not set up meetings as solutions to problems.

There is overwhelming evidence that meetings are usually wasted time and money, yet many people spend almost all day in meetings. I for one do not. I carve out large blocks of time to work and say no to most meetings.

Are you a leader? Cancel or skip two meetings this week and don't reschedule. Encourage those who follow you to do the same. As a leader it is one of the best gifts you could give them and one of the best examples you can set.
